Am I "really" going to be a runner?

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

I never considered myself the athletic type. I really never considered myself a runner in any sense of the word. I had asthma as a child, so that provided a "wonderful" excuse to get out of many sweat producting activities. However, with this Active Duty fitness...running is the main cardiovascular activity we do. Every Thursday, we run on the trail for 40 minutes...we go in intervals...jog / walk / jog / walk. Even though I tend to be the last one coming in...I'm proud of the fact that I even do it at all.

This morning we did a timed mile - running the entire way. My goal was just to keep running (not stopping) regardless of what my time ended up being. I was so proud of myself for running the entire way and my time wasn't totally awful, from what I hear from my runner friends, at 9 minutes and 41 seconds. I can already feel a difference in my body...not so much the pounds...but just the feeling of being stronger, which is cool being that I was the kid who made every excuse in the book to skip gym classes!

With that, my friends and I are all considering doing a 5k in October. I really want to do this and accomplish that goal. I think I could call myself a 'runner' then.
edited: Oh my I must really be serious about this running thing...I just ran 1.25 miles on my treadmill during lunch.
