We started our trip to the tiny village of Lindos  - the home of the Athena acropolis on top of the highest point in Rhodes.  Our tour guide, Dimitri,s was awesome and he entertained us with stories of how the Greek's live and their traditions. Basically he said the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding is true! Very interesting to learn that a Greek girl's dowry is a house (a big tradition in Rhodes) and the best men pay for a 1/3 of the wedding. Also very interesting there are no retirement homes in Greece ... it's common that your daughter and son in law will take care of you. Family is everything in Greece

The acropolis was beautiful and even more breathtaking since the sun was shining!!  The best part was that we traveled by Donkey up to the top - so fun!!

Then we went to a place that made pottery. Apparently there are only six families on the island who make and paint pottery ... it's a dying art and the young people do not want to stay and learn what their grandparents pass down to them. We visited the family of B pottery loved it so beautiful!   We bought several pieces for gifts and such.  The father ... 75 year old man B himself came over to me and said are you from Russia ... Beautiful women are from Russia you are so fair skinned and lovely bone features. So funny - got to love your Greek men!! The. For some reason he asked me of I was a professor or doctor? Have no idea where he was going with that since his accent was so heavy I didn't quite understand what he was saying!?

Afterwards we toured old town of Rhodes which is the best preserved mid evil town in the world.  It's 5 miles long with a fortress built all along the perimeter. We also learned all abou tthe Colossus of Rhodes ... the seven wonders of the ancient world.  Just beautiful ... It reminded us of Dubrovnik, Croatia.
