Day Three - France

Sunday, September 18, 2016

Our third day in France continued the epic quest of trying to cram in as many sites as humanly possible!  On this day we toured the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, strolled along the Champs-Elysse, explored Monet at the Orsay Museum, had a dinner picnic on the Seine river, and ended the evening with a river boat cruise

First up was the Eiffel Tower. We woke up early to get on the metro across town.   We had tour tickets for 10am, but wanted to get there early enough to explore the grounds below the tower and take lots of pictures.  It was amazing to actually see the Eiffel Tower .... it's as grand as you imagine it would be.  It's so quintessential Paris ... at that point it felt like we really were in France!  We went all the way to the top - amazing view!

Next up was the Arc de Triomphe.  We couldn't figure out how to get across the round-a-bought to get over to it.  We went underground and kept taking the wrong turns and ended up coming up at the exact place we started - it was quite comical!  Finally we figured it out and crossed the street underground successfully to emerge at the entrance to the Arc.  We climbed to the top and explored all around.

After we made our way to Champs-Elysee, the famous high end shopping district in Paris.  We had lunch, al fresco of course.  Afterwards, we ventured into all the shops and ended the stroll with a treat from the famous pastry store, Laduree

After exploring and doing a little shopping, we walked FOREVER to the Orsay museum to see many of the French Impressionist paintings.  It was so neat to actually see the real paintings in person - like Monet.

At this point, we were exhausted and needed to figure out dinner.  We weren't up for another dinner in a restaurant, so we ended up ordering pizza from a local pizzeria, buying two bottles of wine and heading down to the Left bank of the Seine river.  It was exactly what we needed.  We watched the sunset while eating our dinner among the local Parisians.  It was a highlight of the trip!

We closed out the evening with a evening river cruise down the Seine river.  That was fun!
