A Historic Election

Today is the day, whether you're a donkey or an elephant....remember to VOTE. So exciting to see who our 44th President of the United States will be.

We plan to take Olivia to the voting polls with us. She visited Mt.Vernon on a field trip today with her Kindergarten class. Very timely, since they learned all about our first President, George Washington. I asked her if she knew the names of the two men who were running for President and she knew. She asked if being President was like being the Boss of America. If you ask me, I think that was a pretty accurate description. Anyway, she said that she and her 'buddy' during the bus trip apparently had an interesting discussion about who was going to win. Apparently, He said, McCain, and she said O'Bama. I hope her Daddy doesn't hear that, lol! That's okay, that just reminds me when I was little, we had pretend vote during my class when it was between Ford and Carter. I was excited to report to my Dad, a Republican to the core, that I voted for Carter. I remember hearing that story being told over and over again through the years.

No matter who wins, it will be a first in history. Either our first African-American president or a first Woman Vice-president. I can't help but think that this is Olivia's second only election and I am so happy that she will live a life where 'firsts' like these will be considered 'ancient' history for her...what an exciting future I see for her generation.

Now, let's just hope and pray that one of these men can get America back on track!
