A few days ago Dan and I had a discussion about how when one of us calls one another from somewhere within the house, our 'tone' when we answer usually sounds a little annoyed. You know the feeling...when you finally plop down to relax that seems to be the exact second when someone somewhere in the house starts yelling your name. So you take a big breath, sigh a little, and yell, "whhhhaaaaatttt?!?!" If you happen to be on the receiving end of that painful yelp then no matter how innocent the need for calling your name might have been you end up being hurt/pissed because the tone in their voice sounds like the last thing they wanted to hear was yours! We noticed we were doing that to Olivia as well when she called for one of us.
So Dan and I made a pact that we would be more cognizant of our 'tone' at times like that...
So fast forward to tonight, Dan and I were making dinner when Olivia yells, "Mooooommmmyyyy". I instinctively started to reply back in my hurried and exasperated, "What now?" tone, but checked myself and called out, "What sweetie bear". She wanted me to come up to see something. I then thought, "Ugh, I'm going to have to go fix something on the computer, I don't have time for this, I need to get dinner on the table." But I went anyway, because, well that's what Mommy's do. What did I find when I walked into the office? A little reminder as to why I should always answer sweetly when my name is called because you never know what nice little reminders that you are loved will be waiting for you on the other end!
